Admissions

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below and the appropriate policies.

Admission Timetable – Including Appeals

16th April – National Offer Day – you can collect your offer online or on the day letters are posted informing parents of which school they have been offered a place at.

14th May, Noon – deadline for the receipt of appeals.

How to Appeal

Should you fail to receive an offer of a place at Bassingham Primary School, you have the right to appeal to an independent Appeals Panel, whose decisions are binding on the school and the local authority.

Appeals should be addressed in writing (using the Admission Appeal Form) to the Clerk to Governors at the school within 20 school days of receiving the decision letter.  The envelope should be clearly marked “Admission Appeal”. The appeal will be heard within 30 school-days of the deadline for receipt of appeal applications.

Parents/carers will receive written notification of the date and time of their appeal hearing, which they can attend to explain their case. This will include a final deadline for submitting any additional information. If they wish, parents may be accompanied by an adviser or friend. Following the appeal, the Clerk to the Governors will write to parents with the decision.

Please note that Bassingham Primary School will not accept repeat appeals for places in the same academic year, unless there are significant and material changes in the circumstances of the parent, child or school which could warrant a further application.  Such circumstances could include moving house or for medical reasons.

In accordance with the School Admission Appeals Code 2022 , the Aspire Schools Trust Board (as the admission authority for Bassingham Primary School) must set a timetable for organising and hearing admission appeals. The timetable will apply to appeals for admission to Sir William Robertson Academy.

Appeals in respect of late applications will generally be heard within 40 school-days of the appeal being received by the school. Appeals in respect of in-year applications will be heard within 30 school-days of receipt.

Appellants (the person(s) lodging an appeal) will receive a letter notifying them of the date, time and venue of the appeals panel appointed to hear their appeal at least 10 school days before the hearing.

Appellants and the admission authority must provide the clerk to the appeals panel with any documents they wish to submit to the panel no later than 6 working days before the hearing.

The clerk to the panel will send to the panel, the appellants and the admission authority all the documentary evidence to be considered at the hearing at least 5 working days before the hearing.

The clerk to the panel will send a letter to the appellants and the admission authority notifying them of the panel’s decision and the reasons for the decision within 5 working days of the hearing wherever possible.
